Woman given life for murder

A WOMAN who killed her younger cousin, with whom she had sexual relationships, was sentenced to life in prison on Monday, -reported Chuncheng Evening News yesterday.

The offender, Yang Ruhua, 22, pleaded guilty to the murder of Li Jianchang, 20, a sophomore at Yunnan Nationalities University, after Li asked to break up on the campus on April 5, last year.

Yang was also ordered to pay 20,000 yuan (US$ 3,030) in compensation to Li's family by the Intermediate People's Court of Kunming City on Monday.

Yang's father said the family told Yang to end the "abnormal relationship" after she admitted having a crush on Li in 2004. However, Yang didn't listen to them and left home and went to work in Kunming City, where Li was studying.

Li's diary revealed that the two had numerous disputes and Li has proposed break-ups before but failed.

In April last year, when Li said he wanted to break up again, Yang stabbed him in the chest with a fruit knife in front of the college canteen and then fled the scene. She was later found hiding in the school's basement.
