Woman in court for murdering mother-in-law and her own son
A woman who killed her mother-in-law and her 3-year-old son to vent her anger over divorce stood on trial yesterday in Guangzhou in south China.
The 33-year-old women surnamed Chen was divorced in March and failed to get 70,000 yuan (US$11,067) in compensation, which caused her to commit murder, prosecutors said.
Chen hated her mother-in-law as she found the elder woman always following her like a shadow and was the cause of her broken marriage, today's Yangcheng Evening News reported.
Chen returned to her home the day after the divorce and stabbed her mother-in-law to death. She then went to the bedroom of her son and killed the sleeping boy as well.
"I killed my son out of love," Chen told the court, saying she feared her boy would be taunted being the son of a murderer and abused by a step-mother.
She was arrested while she tried to commit suicide next to the body of her son, the paper said.
Chen's ex-husband asked the court to give her the death penalty.
Chen said she wished to donate her organs except her eyes. "I want to keep my eyes to see my dearest son in the other world."
The court did not make a verdict yesterday, the paper said.
