Woman jailed over suicidal gas blast

A WOMAN has been jailed for 11 years after cutting a gas pipe in her kitchen, causing a blast that injured 14 people.

Wang Qi cut the gas pipe in the early hours of June 4 last year in Beijing to try to commit suicide after an unhappy love affair, Wuhan Evening News reported today.

Her former classmate received an online message from Wang about 9pm that day and called police.

The gas exploded while policemen and fire fighters were preparing to break into the house to rescue the woman, the report said.

Fourteen rescuers were injured and three suffered serious injuries.
