Woman lets dying mom see long lost 'daughter'
MANY people have been moved by the story of a woman who pretended for five years to be the daughter of a terminally ill mother who wished only to see her long-lost daughter before she died.
Jin Bing began work in Nanjing in 2006. She happened to see a TV program showing an old villager named Du crying, begging his young daughter to see her mother for the last time, the Yangtze Evening News reported yesterday.
The poverty-stricken family in rural Nanjing sent their 20-day-old daughter to live with a wealthier family in 1981 because they couldn't afford to care for her.
"Your mother is dying of terminal cancer. She just wants to see you! Please come back as soon as possible," the father said, with his wife, in obvious pain, sitting beside him.
After hearing that their daughter, known as Ge Miao, had rejected their plea, Jin decided to disguise herself as Ge. Jin contacted the family and explained her plan to all of them except the mother. The fake daughter met her for the first time during the Spring Festival in 2007.
Starting then, she played the role of a good daughter. She sent the family a new TV, bought her "mother" new clothes and washed her feet from time to time, the paper reported.
"Who else will treat you just like you are their daughter? I feel so lucky. Actually, I have gained much," she said.
The elder woman died over the National Day holiday last year. Jin's filial piety has won much appreciation since her story went online.
Jin now focuses on taking care of her "father," who has lung cancer.
