Woman mislabeled drug addict for 8 years
A WOMAN is seeking a police correction after eight years' harassment for being mistakenly labeled a drug user and trafficker on her ID card.
The mistake occurred back in 2002 when a neighbor used Hu Ya's personal information when she was caught for drug trafficking, Hu told today's Chongqing Evening News in central China.
She complained that the mistaken identity has made it hard for her to find a job and travel. Though she had been asking Jieshi police station to correct the record for eight years, nothing had happened yet, she said.
The latest incident was in July last year when she was attending a job training session at a hotel. A nearby police officer summoned her for urine checks after learning about her "criminal record" from the ID card she used to check in.
Zhao Ping, a neighborhood official, and many other villagers have volunteered testimonials to Hu's innocence.
Jieshi police director Zhao told Chongqing Evening News that the office has submitted Hu's correction request to Banan District Police and is awaiting the superior's reply.
The final correction could take a long time as Jieshi police had told Hu it needed to report the matter to the central Public Security Ministry for final approval, she said.
