Woman questioned after dead newborn found
A 21-year-old woman has been questioned by police in connection with the discovery of a dead newborn in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province.
The baby was found dead in a plastic bag by an elderly man yesterday in the back yard of a hotel. The body was black and blue and the bag had blood in it, and the baby appeared to be a girl, the man said, according to the Shenyang Evening News.
Police found the woman, surnamed Wang, from Sichuan Province, who was captured by a surveillance camera throwing the bag from the second floor on Monday night, the report said.
Wang admitted having thrown the bag but didn't disclose any details when she was taken in by police for questioning. Her 19-year-old boyfriend, who had been with her in the hotel room, did not comment, police said.
Hotel workers said she checked in on Monday evening, wearing a loose dress. They didn't hear any baby crying or notice anything unnatural. They suspected Wang delivered the baby in the room, the newspaper reported.
It remains unknown whether the baby was born premature or dead. The investigation is ongoing.
