Woman steals baby after miscarriage to please boyfriend
A woman who had a miscarriage and stole a newborn baby from the hospital in southern Guangdong Province to please her boyfriend has been caught, the Yangcheng Evening News reported today.
The suspect surnamed He was detained by police in Shanwei City on Saturday afternoon and the stolen baby was returned to his parents on the same day, the newspaper said.
Police said He stole the baby during lunch break on November 15 when Lin Huiqing, the 30-year-old mother, who just gave birth to a son the day before, turned over to one side to relax her sore body.
When Lin turned back, she was shocked to see the baby crib was empty. The Shanwei No. 2 People's Hospital immediately confirmed the baby was stolen and reported to the police.
Footage from a surveillance camera in the hospital showed a woman left the ward No. 216 with a baby in her arms and went out of the hospital at about 11:50am.
Police recognized He from the footage and caught her in a rented apartment in Jiesheng Town outside the city on Saturday while she was nursing the stolen baby.
The woman in her 40s is a divorcee with two sons. She started an affair with a man named A'ming last year and they moved to live together soon, the newspaper said.
He said she was pregnant in February and A'ming told her they could move away from the city and start a new life with their baby. But she had a miscarriage seven months into her pregnancy.
He decided to steal a baby to please her boyfriend and secure their relationship, she told the police.
