Woman sues airlines for shooting pet dog dead
THE owner of a poodle that was shot dead on an airport runway in Haikou, capital of Hainan Province to ensure air safety has sued the Hainan Airlines and demanded 37,976 yuan (US$6015.4) in damages.
The woman surnamed Ni accused the airlines of not giving a proper explanation for the dog's death and sued it to a court in Beijing.
"I paid 136 yuan for my pet's flight from Beijing to Kaikou, but she wasn't in good care. The Hainan Airlines apparently violated the contract," today's Beijing Morning Post cited Ni as saying.
Her white puppy, named Ge Ge, escaped from a plastic cage that got loose on the luggage carousel and ran toward the runway on the afternoon of January 2, according to an account given by the airport.
Airport staff tried to get the dog but failed. As another plane was scheduled to land a minute later, the little dog had to be shot, the airport said.
The outraged woman watched a video footage later and doubted how her dog could run away as soon as the cage was placed on the luggage carousel.
"Besides, the cage lid was not pushed open. It was opened by someone and the belt fastening the cage wasn't torn," Ni said.
The Chaoyang District Court hasn't put a court hearing on the schedule.
