Women reconcile in court over metro fighting
TWO pregnant women fought in a Beijing Metro station last December and they appeared in a court yesterday as one was suing the other for a 38,000-yuan (US$6,190) compensation, Beijing Morning Post reported today.
One woman surnamed Zhao, 28, said she was riding an elevator at the city's Fengbo Station of Metro Line 15 when the luggage of the other woman, surnamed Wang, touched her leg. She said Wang first apologized, then said something else and later exchange verbal abuses with her.
Zhao said Wang began to hit her. She begged Wang to stop as she was three months in pregnancy. But Wang didn't stop and even kicked her belly. She said they were finally separated by passers-by.
Zhao said she was hospitalized for three days, stayed at home for one month and had two medical examinations. She was asking Wang to pay her medical bills of 13,524 yuan, her mental damage of 5,000 yuan, and fetal damage of 20,000 yuan.
Wang, 35, denied the allegations in court and said she unintentionally touched Zhao with a paper bag but Zhao refused to accept her apology, scolded and pulled her hair. She said she had no choice but fight back.
Wang said she stopped fighting after Wang told her she was pregnant. Wang said she was also pregnant at that time and Zhao's attack also hurt her fetus.
Since both fought, Zhao was held in administrative detention for seven days while Wang was in custody for 10 days. They were also fined 300 yuan and 500 yuan respectively.
After the hearing, the two women reached a reconciliation agreement. Wang paid 1,000 yuan to Zhao in the court.
