Workers head home for holidays on two wheels

INTREPID migrant workers have found a new way to beat the rush for train and bus tickets home - 100,000 of them are setting out on motorbikes from southern China's Guangdong Province to reach their families before Spring Festival on Sunday.

They are now riding along the 2,220-kilometer National Route 321, which passes Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces, today's Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Compared with a fast but expensive train or bus ride, getting home is cheaper on a motorbike. Workers Zhou and Zhang told the newspaper they were on their way from Zhongshan City in Guangdong to Guangxi Province, costing them just 100 yuan (US$14.65) in fuel during the 10-hour ride.

To ensure their safety, 200,000 police have been sent to guide them and provide first-aid services.
