World's leaders in goodwill messages
Newly elected Chinese President Xi Jinping talked to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin yesterday, with both sides pledging to strengthen ties.
Xi said Putin called him by phone on his election, which showed the Russian president highly valued China-Russia relations, adding he also attached great importance to the development of the China-Russia relations.
Last nigh, Xi also talked over phone with US President Barack Obama who congratulated Xi on his election.
The two leaders pledged to work together to further promote the development of Sino-US relations.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent Xi a congratulatory letter. Other world leaders sending messages included Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari; South Korean President Park Geun-hye, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un; and Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang.
