Wuxi fixes water woes
RESIDENTS in the industrial city of Wuxi in Shanghai's neighboring Jiangsu Province will soon have high-quality drinking water and benefit from water recycling.
They will also enjoy other advanced ecological technology within three years, such as solar energy, waste recycling, and energy efficient transport, when the Sino-Swedish Low-Carbon Eco-City Demonstration Project is expected to be complete.
A ground-breaking ceremony was held yesterday in Wuxi, making the 2.4-square-kilometer project in a low-carbon area.
The Sino-Swedish collaboration is in Taihu New City, a project in collaboration with China's Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. About 20,000 residents will move into the Sino-Swedish project.
Contracts were signed yesterday between the ministry and Wuxi to introduce ecological technology and with the Swedish Department for Environment and Wuxi to provide city planning and low-carbon technology assistance.
