Wuxi nightclub probed for suspicious business
POLICE are investigating a nightclub in Wuxi in neighboring Jiangsu Province that claims to pay female staff up to 20,000 yuan (US$3,086) a month just to serve drinks and sing karaoke for customers, a Nanjing newspaper reported today.
Women under 25 years old, taller than 1.6 meters and good looking could earn 8,000 yuan to 20,000 yuan a month. No education or working experiences were required, the club claimed in an ad distributed at a job fair in Chengdu, Sichuan Province recently, the Yangzi Evening News reported.
The nightclub with the same name as the banned Beijing Paradise Nightclub (Tian Shang Ren Jian) said they want women who are open, healthy, fashionable, good at communication, fond of entertainment and without bad habits.
A club director surnamed Cao said the company had an entertainment venue in Yixing, Jiangsu Province and planned to open a bigger one in Wuxi in two months. Their new building has three floors and 40 balconies.
A Wuxi Industrial and Commercial Administration official surnamed Xue said the registered club would provide karaoke, dancing, card game, bath and guestroom services.
Yixing police have begun investigating the company because its salary offers seem abnormal, the newspaper said.
Despite its high pays, the nightclub failed to attract applicants at the Chengdu job fair. Some women said the ad was weird. Jia Mei, a Chengdu University student, said "It doesn't look like a normal company and calling female staff 'princess' make me feel women are not respected."
"The ad is in low taste and more like those found on wire poles rather than at an official job fair," said Jiang Jiao, a Chengdu citizen.
A deputy general manager of the banned Beijing Paradise Nightclub has been indicted for finding customers for in-house prostitutes, according to previous reports.
