Xi Jinping in Netherlands for state visit, nuclear summit

CHINESE President Xi Jinping has arrived in Amsterdam, the first stop in a European tour that will take him to three other countries.

Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan were welcomed by the Dutch King, Willem-Alexander, and Queen Maxima. This is the first time a Chinese President has come to the Netherlands since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1972.

Speaking as he arrived, the Chinese President said he hoped the visit will help strengthen mutual trust, promote practical cooperation and deepen their friendship. The two sides then held talks at the royal palace on Amsterdam’s central Dam square. During his stay in the Netherlands, Xi Jinping is expected to meet parliamentary leaders, as well as Prime Minister Mark Rutte. He will also attend the third Nuclear Security Summit at the Hague.

Xi Jinping’s 11-day European tour will also bring him to France, Germany and Belgium, where he is scheduled to visit the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, and the EU headquarters in Brussels.
