Xi meets former presidents to wish them for the coming Chinese New Year

PRESIDENT Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders paid a visit to their predecessors ahead of the Spring Festival.
Current leaders and their representatives paid visits to former presidents Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao as well as to retired senior officials from the Communist Party of China Central Committee and former military personnels, according to a statement released by the Central Committee’s General Office yesterday.
They wished them a happy Spring Festival, good health and long lives, the statement said.
Some of the retired leaders and officials expressed the hope that the Chinese people would unite to achieve the country’s development goals.
Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on February 8 this year.
