Xia Baolong appointed Party chief of Zhejiang

XIA Baolong has been appointed secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), replacing Zhao Hongzhu, according to a decision announced by the CPC Central Committee today.

Xia, born in December 1952, was appointed Zhejiang's acting governor in August 2011, and governor of the province in January this year. He had served as deputy secretary of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee from November 2003.

Zhang Jinan, vice head of the Organization Department of CPC Central Committee, said at a meeting that the personnel change was made based on assessment of the overall situation, the need of work, and the actual situation of Zhejiang's leadership buildup.

The CPC Central Committee announced on November 21 that Zhao Hongzhu would no longer hold the post of secretary of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee.

Zhao, born in July 1947, is currently a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and deputy secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
