Yao poised to explore the world of cinema next
RETIRED basketball star Yao Ming is trying to expand his business into the film market, his management team said yesterday.
Zhang Mingji, spokesman of Team Yao, said yesterday morning that although Yao had not yet invested or established any film foundation or organization, the billionaire has been looking for such business opportunities.
Previous reports suggested that the Chinese basketball celebrity had got in touch with Jay Cohen, an independent film-maker in Hollywood. The two are working on launching a film foundation, according to TheWrap.com, a news organization covering the business of entertainment and media.
"It is still under discussion and we haven't made any decisions yet," Zhang told reporters this week.
