Yinchuan builds first city railtrack over Yellow River

THE first inner-city rail line crossing the Yellow River will be built in southwest China after Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region's planners approved the project, Xinhua news agency reported today.

The line, costing 5.7 billion yuan (US$835 million), will link the regional capital Yinchuan City and a mining center across the river in Ningdong Town, easing daily transport for the workers, according to Zhou Shu, Ningxia's traffic and transport director.

Ningdong Energy Chemical Center is one of 13 mining centers with a capacity over 100 million tons approved by the central government.

The line, starting at Yinchuan's West Bus Station, will extend 45 kilometers across China's second-longest river.
