Young children ‘overexposed to screens’
URBAN Chinese born after 2000 are exposed to screens at a very early age, according to a report released yesterday by the China National Youth Palace Association.
The claim comes after the organization carried out a 12-month survey in 18 cities, covering more than 30,000 children and their parents.
The poll found that 43 percent of children aged between three and six spent more than 30 minutes a day watching TV, while 92 percent had cellphones and 83 percent played with handheld smart devices.
In the same group, 44 percent have played online games, while 21 percent have used the WeChat mobile messaging service.
Among junior high school pupils, 78 percent have their own phone, 34 percent have interacted with a stranger online and 26 percent have played multiplayer online games, the report said.
It warned that this amount of exposure to screens has several risks and called for more education for children.
