Young dad says he killed baby because he ran out of money
A young father who strangled his baby daughter and buried her in Mian County of Hanzhong city, in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, said he couldn’t handle the economic burden of a child since he and his girlfriend are both unemployed, Chinese Business View quoted police as saying.
The man, surnamed Tian, 23, took his 56-day-old daughter by the throat and killed her in a fit of anger in their home on February 3, police said.
Tian said he had spent all of his savings after his daughter was born and didn’t have enough money since both he and his girlfriend had no jobs. They spent 2,000 yuan (US$323) a month on average on the baby.
Tian wrapped the baby in quilts and buried her in a flowerbed along the road, police said. The baby’s mother filed a report with police since she couldn’t find the baby at home.
Tian told her that he had sent the baby to their relatives for adoption, but police proved that was not true by checking with their relatives. Tian then confessed to killing the girl, police said. He told them he had failed in his obligations to his family, the report said.
