Young woman missing for 9 days in Chongqing

Police are searching for a 20-year-old woman who has been missing for nine days, Chongqing Economic Times newspaper reported today.

Gao Yu hired a private car for 50 yuan around 4pm on August 9. She was apparently traveling from the city’s Tongliang District back downtown, according to the report.

One of her classmates told the newspaper that Gao called her about 6pm that day asking what the fare should be from Bishan County to downtown. Gao hung up quickly, saying her cellphone battery was getting low, her classmate said. At 8:05 pm, Gao called several other friends according to her phone records, the report said. Her classmate informed Gao’s mother, who was on a business trip in Shanghai, when she later called back and couldn’t reach her, the report said.

Gao is 1.61 meters tall with shoulder-length hair and three moles on her jaw. She was wearing blue clothes and had her pet dog when she was last seen.

Gao’s mother has offered a 100,000-yuan (US$16,260) reward to anyone for information that helps the police find her, the report said.
