Yunnan forest fire subdued this morning

A forest fire broke out in Lijiang, Yunnan Province yesterday afternoon, quickly spread over 14 hectares of forest and cut off power supply in the city, according to Xinhua.

Yunnan forest fire control authority said the fire had been controlled by 5am this morning and visible flames would be put out before noon. No casualty has been reported so far and the cause of the fire was still unknown.

Lin Xiangdong, director of the Yunnan Forest Fire Control Headquarters, said more than 400 firefighters and two helicopters had been deployed to extinguish the forest fire after it occurred in a secondary forest in Huangshan Town.

Since the burning area is only about 4 kilometers from Lijiang Airport and the urban area, tourists and residents could see the flames clearly. Some people said on their microblog that the fire was pretty big. But the fire authority said the fire was well under control all the time.
