Yunnan forest fire suspect detained by police
THE suspect who caused a massive forest fire in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Friday has been detained, China News Service reported today.
Fire fighters extinguished all visible flames in the mountain forest in Baisha Township, some 5 kilometers away from the scenic tourist spot Yulong Snow Mountain.
The fire has engulfed at least 45 hectares of the forest with high winds since Thursday morning. More than 4,000 people were mobilized to join the fire-fighting efforts.
The unnamed suspect is a local villager and the case is still under investigation, said Zhang Wenyin, an official with the publicity department of Lijiang City, which oversees Baisha.
