Yunnan police shoot 2 kidnappers dead

POLICE shot dead two kidnappers and caught another while rescuing a woman hostage early yesterday in southwest China's Yunnan Province, today's Chuncheng Evening News reported.

The woman surnamed Jiang, 37, who was seriously injured, is in a stable condition but has not yet recovered from her ordeal, the newspaper said.

The kidnappers had asked for 60,000 yuan (US$8,786) in ransom from the woman and her husband, owners of an inn in Tengchong Town, Baoshan City, police told the newspaper.

Police received a kidnap report from the husband, surnamed Kang, 38, around 3:20am who said his wife had been hijacked by three masked men who stormed the couple's home around 3am and asked for money at knifepoint.

After taking 9,000 yuan from the safe, the three drove away with the wife in the couple's car, the newspaper said. About half an hour later, they phoned Kang and asked him to get more cash.

When they returned to the house, armed police rushed and caught the car's driver but the two kidnappers in the back seat threatened to stab Jiang with knives, the newspaper said.

Two shots were fired, killing Yin Yibo, 23, and Yin Kehan, 22, according to police who are still investigating the case.
