CHINESE actress Zhang Ziyi is set to produce her next movie "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" after her first production "Sophie's Revenge" proved to be a blockbuster this summer.
The 30-year-old actress will co-produce the English-language movie about women's friendships with two friends, Wendi Murdoch, wife of News Corp chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch, and Florence Sloan, wife of MGM chairman Harry Sloan, according to Xinhua news agency today.
The film is based on a novel by Lisa See and stars Zhang. Set in 19th-century China, the story concerns two lifelong friends who use a secret writing code to share the little knowledge they glean despite being denied an education.
The movie will be directed by Wayne Wang, who directed the critically acclaimed "Joy Luck Club" in 1993 and had a hand in the script.
"Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" will start shooting early next year in China.
