Zhou Qiang becomes Party chief of Hunan province

ZHOU Qiang has been appointed as the secretary of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), according to the CPC Central Committee today.

Zhou was born in April 1960 in Huangmei County, central China's Hubei Province.

He was elected first secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China in June 1998 and was re-elected to the post in July 2003.

Zhang Chunxian, who served as the Party chief of central Hunan Province before Zhou, was appointed as the Party chief of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region yesterday.

Zhang Chunxian will no long serve as the secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and member of the standing committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, says a brief statement from the CPC Central Committee.

Former secretary of the CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee Wang Lequan has been appointed as deputy secretary of the Committee of Political Science and Law under the CPC Central Committee.
