THREE more Shanghai officials have been punished for breaking the Party’s frugality rules, the city’s discipline watchdog said yesterday.
The first of the offenders was Tong Yi, a former Party chief of the Municipal Housing Construction Development Center, who was given a disciplinary warning for excessive spending.
Among the purchases he authorized were 150 watches worth 144,000 yuan (US$23,200) that were given to staff, and a 173,000-yuan trip for more than 100 employees to celebrate the center’s 10th anniversary in July 2013.
Chen Wei, a former director of the center, was given an administrative warning for related offenses.
The third official to be punished was Li Yihong, deputy director of Shanghai’s house safety supervision office. He was given a serious disciplinary warning for giving money to mid-level officials to cover spurious expense claims on three separate occasions.
The Party in December 2012 launched an anti-frugality campaign, also known as the “eight-point” rules, in a bid to reduce pomp, ceremony, bureaucracy and other undesirable work practices.
More than 100,000 officials have been punished for related offenses in the past two years.
