Bribe-taking official sentenced

ZHU Mingguo, former head of the political advisory body in the southern province of Guangdong, was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve yesterday for accepting bribes and holding “a huge amount” of assets from unidentified sources.

Zhu was found guilty of using his power, when he held public posts between 2002 and 2014, to seek profits for others bidding for projects and land, and aided personnel to secure promotions, according to the Liuzhou City Intermediate People’s Court in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Zhu accepted 141 million yuan (US$20.7 million) in assets and bribes directly or through his wife, and had property worth over 91 million yuan, the court said.
