Corruption probes end in Party expulsions

THE vice governor of east China’s Anhui Province, Zhou Chunyu, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office.

Zhou was found to “completely lack political beliefs,” and to have long engaged in investment and business operations to seek “huge profits,” according to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

It said Zhou refused to cooperate in the Party’s investigation, falsified personal information, concealed offshore deposits, abused his power to seek benefits for others, and accepted “a huge amount” in bribes.

Zhou’s illegal gains will be confiscated and his case transferred to the judiciary, the commission said.

Also expelled and dismissed from public office was Wang Yincheng, former president of the People’s Insurance Company (Group) of China Ltd.

Wang is said to have flouted frugality rules by frequenting golf clubs and allowing subsidiary companies to pay for his travel.

He even changed the route of an overseas business trip just to play golf, the commission said.

Wang was found to have interfered with the Party’s inspection and audit, as well as resisting investigation, it said.

His illegal gains will be confiscated and the case transferred to judicial authorities.
