Ex-deputy provincial governors sacked

CHINA’S top anti-graft body said yesterday it had expelled two former deputy provincial governors from the Party for alleged corruption.
Yang Zhenchao from east China’s Anhui Province and Li Chengyun from southwest China’s Sichuan Province had “resisted a Party investigation,” the Party’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said yesterday.
Yang was accused of lying to the investigators, which usually implies tampering or destroying evidences, covering up accomplices or criminal acts.
Yang was accused of violating the Party’s eight-point rules on austerity by accepting banquet invitations and spending public money on his personal tours.
He was suspected of taking advantage of his position to seek benefits for others in official selection and promotions, and business operations.
In return, he accepted huge bribes, it said. He was also suspected of embezzling public properties, the commission said.
Li was suspected of illegally holding shares in a non-listed company, abusing his powers and accepting bribes, and making reform policies in state-owned enterprises in violation of rules.
Their illegal profits would be seized, the commission said.
Yang, 56, had worked in provincial economic commission and state-owned assets supervision and administration commission before being promoted as the deputy governor of Anhui Province in 2013.
He was investigated in May and removed in June.
Li, 61, was removed from his post in 2011, when he was the deputy governor of Sichuan. Later, he was appointed as the provincial government’s consultant for government policies.
He was again placed under investigation in April.
