Former Anhui vice governor investigated

CHEN Shulong, former vice governor of east China’s Anhui Province, is under investigation on suspicion of taking bribes, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate announced yesterday.

Chen, also a former member of the standing committee of the Communist Party of China Anhui provincial committee, has been placed under “coercive measures,” and further investigation is underway.

Coercive measures may include summons by force, bail, residential surveillance, detention and arrest.

Chen has been expelled from the CPC and dismissed from public office for actions including “superstitious activities,” trading power for sex and accepting bribes.

Meanwhile, the former vice mayor of Anqing City in Anhui stood trial yesterday on charges of taking bribes.

The Intermediate People’s Court of Bozhou opened the trial of Fan Xianhan on charges of taking 1.8 million yuan (US$260,700) of bribes and gifts worth 4.68 million yuan.

Procurators alleged Fan took the bribes when he worked as the county chief of Huaining, then vice mayor and police chief of Anqing between 2012 and 2016.

Fan pleaded guilty and the court has adjourned to decide on sentencing.
