Former vice governor of China's southeastern Fujian Province Xu Gang has been stripped of his official post and expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) said its investigation found that Xu was in "serious breach of honesty and self-discipline rules by taking advantage of his post to seek benefits for his wife's business operations."
He also violated the CPC's eight-point frugality rules, played golf paid for by others, used his position to seek interests for other people in the appointment and selection process for government officials as well as in company operations, in addition to taking a huge sum of bribes, it said in a statement.
The CCDI noted that Xu had sought to "interfere in and stall investigations, collude with his wife and some of his bribers, and hide his illegal gains and property."
As a senior Party official, Xu showed no intention of disciplining himself and stopping his wrongdoings even after the 18th CPC National Congress in late 2012 when the new leadership launched the anti-corruption campaign, the statement said.
His case has been handed over to judicial authorities, and all his illegal gains have been confiscated, it said.
