Former top inspector expelled from Party

A FORMER vice-ministerial level inspector has been expelled from the Party for corruption and violating its code of conduct, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced yesterday.

Zhang Huawei, a former central inspection teams inspector, was found to have severely violated political discipline, interfered with the work of the institutions being inspected, and resisted investigation, the commission said.

Zhang led the inspections of several institutions, including the General Administration of Sport of China and the China Huadian Corporation.

Zhang was also accused of taking bribes, the commission said. Its investigation found Zhang traded power for money and gifts, and attended banquets that could influence fairness in his official duties.

The commission said that as a senior Party official and a graft inspector himself, Zhang had lost his values, seriously violated the Party’s code of conduct, and did not cease his inappropriate behavior even after the 18th National Congress in 2012, when China’s anti-corruption campaign was launched.

Zhang’s illegal gains will be confiscated and his case transferred to judicial organs.
