Former vice governor of Jiangxi stands trial for taking bribes of 23m yuan
原江西副省长姚木根今日受审 被控受贿2300余万元

A former vice governor of east China's Jiangxi Province, Yao Mugen, went on trial for taking bribes on Tuesday.

The case was tried at the intermediate court of Xiamen City in east China's Fujian Province.

Prosecutors accused Yao of taking advantage of his position to seek benefits for a local company and others and of accepting money and valuables worth about 23 million yuan (3.6 mln U.S. dollars).

Yao confessed to his crimes during the trial, the court said. It did not announce the verdict immediately.

Yao was removed from his post as vice governor in April last year, a month after the Communist Party of China's (CPC) Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) announced that it had placed him under investigation for suspected violations.
