Ministry official investigated by anti-graft watchdog

A senior labor ministry official is being investigated for suspected corruption, China’s anti-graft watchdog said yesterday, the latest person named in a sweeping anti-corruption campaign.

Zuo Chunwen, head of the unemployment insurance division of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, is suspected of “serious breaches in discipline,” the usual euphemism for graft, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said. It provided no other details.

According to his official biography, Zuo, 58, was appointed to his current position in 2008.

Separately, the defense ministry said Miao Guirong, who had been chief engineer at the communications department of the People’s Armed Police, was to be prosecuted for suspected corruption. It, too, gave no further details.
