Party takes action over allegations of graft

THE former governor of southeast China’s Fujian Province has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office for violating the Party’s code of conduct and for corruption.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said an investigation found Su Shulin “severely violated political discipline and rules.”

Su was formerly a deputy chief of the Party’s Fujian Provincial Committee and general manager of leading oil company Sinopec.

The commission said Su had pried into information on inspection teams sent by central authorities, taken up activities against Party rules, resisted investigation, and promoted others against Party rules.

He caused great losses of state-owned properties, acted against the Party’s frugality code, and sought profits for relatives, its statement said. He was also accused of abuse of power and taking bribes.

Su, as a member of the Party’s Central Committee, was greedy and “politically disloyal” to the Party, it said.

Su’s qualification as a delegate to the 18th CPC National Congress would be terminated and financial gains confiscated. The case will be transferred to judicial organs.

In a similar announcement, the commission said Yang Chongyong, a former senior legislator in north China’s Hebei Province, had been expelled from the Party and dismissed from office for actions that included graft.

Yang took advantage of his post to seek benefits for others and accepted “a huge amount” in bribes, according to the commission.

Yang, 61, had been vice head of the Hebei Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee since 2016. Before that, he was vice governor of Hebei for eight years.

Investigators allege he used fake identity documents for trips, concealed changes in his marital status, and “confronted investigations.”

Yang also borrowed vehicles and apartments from private entrepreneurs for a long periods.

Yang, a senior official, severely violated the Party’s code of conduct and “polluted the political ecology of Hebei Province,” it said.

Yang’s illegal gains will be confiscated and his case handed over to prosecutors, it said.
