Prison for ex-deputy governor
A former deputy governor in central China’s Hubei Province was yesterday jailed for 15 years for accepting nearly 23.8 million yuan (US$3.7 million) in bribes.
Guo Youming is said to have abused his power to help others in business matters between 2001 and 2013 when he was variously Yichang’s mayor, Party chief and top lawmaker and Hubei’s deputy governor.
Sentencing Guo yesterday, Nanyang Intermediate People’s Court in neighboring Henan Province said that because he had admitted his guilt, expressed regret and returned the money, he would be given the lighter sentence of 15 years in prison and the seizure of 2 million yuan in personal assets.
Guo was removed from the deputy governor’s post in November 2013 for suspected severe disciplinary violations. He was expelled from the Party in April 2014.
At this June 30 trial, prosecutors said he accepted bribes via his wife, his son, his brother and a woman named Xiao Lin.
