iPhone workers recover after poisoning
WORKERS poisoned from a cleaning chemical while working for a Taiwan-based iPhone touch-screen supplier in east China are recovering.
Twenty-two of the hospitalized workers have been discharged while the other 44 are still being treated in a hospital in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, today's China Business News reported.
Wintek Corporation said that 47 of its workers were stricken from the misuse of the screen cleaner n-hexane at its mainland subsidiary, United Win (China) Technology Ltd, in Suzhou Industrial Park. Only one worker showed serious symptoms while no deaths were reported, the newspaper quoted a Wintek official as saying.
The technology chief of the factory has been removed, the official said. It has ceased use of n-hexane.
The company had sent all its 2,700 workers exposed to the chemical for physical checks and paid for immediate treatment for suspected victims.
