Biggest tidal bore predicted for Qiantang River
THE biggest tidal bore in Zhejiang Province's Qiantang River of this century may occur on October 6, water authorities said.
The great tidal bore was formed under the influence of this year's total solar eclipse on July 22, China New Service reported today.
The bore was 20 centimeters higher than usual and could last up to eight days, the report said.
The Qiantang River originates on the border of Anhui and Jiangxi provinces and passes through Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, before flowing into the East China Sea through Hangzhou Bay.
It is famous for its tidal bore, which has attracted nearly 8 million visitors since 1992.
The bore is best seen from Yanguan Town in Haining city.
