Construction period not allowed to be shortened

The Railway Ministry said the construction period should not be shortened at will in order to ensure the safe operation of the high-speed railway.

The construction schedule should be strictly followed and quality should be core to railway projects, Sheng Guangzu, railway minister, said at an internal meeting, Beijing Times reported today.

More efforts should be made to improve the quality of high-speed railway's signaling system and power supply system. A disaster prevention mechanism should be set up to improve high-speed trains' overall resilience in the event of natural disasters, Sheng said.

The ministry has pledged to learn from the fatal train crash on July 23 in Wenzhou City, east China's Zhejiang Province. The most serious train accident since 2008 has claimed 40 lives and injured more than 100.
