Cops feel being spied on by private detectives
POLICEMEN in Anlu, a city in Hubei Province, complained that they were being stalked by private investigators hired by authorities to catch cops breaching their code of conduct.
The city's public security bureau paid 80,000 yuan (US$12,084) a year to an unidentified detective firm in May to do the job using hidden camera and undercover interview to track the daily conduct of its officers.
A total of 23 cops have been punished by this month for things such as eating during work hours, not wearing police uniform, and hanging out in massage salons in uniform. Hundreds more are complaining about the intrusion in their private life because they feel being watched even during the breaks.
The practice has also drawn disapproval from local residents who said it was "a total waste of money and time."
