Drunk official arrested for mowing down 5 students

RELATIVES of five teenagers killed in a car accident caused by drunk official will receive 230,000 yuan (US$ 34,508) each in compensation, the Beijing News reported today.
Police said Gu Qingyang, director of Luoning Post Bureau in Luoyang, Henan Province, has been arrested on charges of endangering public security after his car ran over the five victims on Sunday.
Families of five students have signed compensation agreements with the local government, the report said.
To ensure a fair and objective investigation, Henan Provincial Public Security Bureau will appoint the police unit in Sanmenxia City to deal with the case.
Gu was found drunk when he drove the car in the wrong way on Sunday night and plowed into a crowd of pedestrians on the street. Three middle school students were killed on the spot and two died later in hospital.
Families of these five children said they had already received compensation money. However, none of them were really satisfied.
"The lives of our children are priceless," said Yang Chunpeng, who lost his only son in the accident.
