Dumped powder threatens village water source
SAMPLES of black powder dumped 100 meters from a village water source have been sent for tests after south China residents said it was powder used to fill batteries.
Villagers of Xintang Town in Guangdong Province's Xincheng City said the powder was poisoning trees and plants nearby and had killed fish, today's Yangcheng Evening News reported.
Villagers showering in water from the reservoir complained of itchy skin, the newspaper said.
Some unknown people had secretly dumped the powder there since last October over an area of 800 square meters, said villager Yu Desheng.
