Egyptian businessman robbed US$95,000 on bus

Police in neighboring Zhejiang Province are hunting for thieves who stole US$95,000 in cash from an Egyptian traveler on an inter-city bus last night.

The Egyptian, whose name was not revealed, took a bus from Yiwu, a city in Zhejiang famous for its export goods market, for Shanghai Pudong International Airport yesterday. As the bus stopped at a rest area near Jiaxing City around 8:50pm, the man found the cash in his case was gone.

Two of the 28 passengers on the bus disappeared, the bus driver said.

Zhejiang police told Shanghai Daily that they were checking the video from bus surveillance cameras to identify the two thieves.

"The video can provide clues and crime evidence," said a police official surnamed Zhu. "It contains a lot of information and requires careful and technical analysis."

Zhu said the young businessman was very upset about the theft and had returned to Yiwu, accompanied by his Chinese business partner who can speak Arabic and helped the Egyptian to report the theft to police.
