Fakes plague online shopping
SHOPPERS want the government to crack down on online traders selling fake goods.
About three quarters of 22,000 shoppers surveyed by Sina.com said they had received fake goods shopping online and more than 80 percent said they were dissatisfied with government measures to fix the problem.
Despite these complaints online shopping remains popular with up to 90 percent of those surveyed saying they would continue shopping online.
Products sold online are usually cheaper than those at city stores but many are fakes.
Up to two-thirds of the shoppers said they did not choose goods just because of the low prices. Others confessed they would pay lower prices even if they knew the goods were fake.
To battle fake goods, some of the leading Websites, including Taobao.com, Eachnet.com, Paipai.com and Youa.baidu.com have introduced tough measures and have threatened to close any retail sites selling fakes.
The national market watchdog is taking stricter measures and is improving supervision of online shopping.
