Girl forced to do 800 squats for unfinished homework

A middle school student in Luoyang in central China's Henan Province jumped to death on Friday and her family suspected her death was the result of physical punishment by her teacher.

Ling Ling, a 13-year-old student of Luoyang Experimental Middle School, was found dead by her mother around 6pm on the ground below their 6th-floor apartment. Police later found that the girl jumped from the roof of the building at about 5:30pm, the local Dahe Daily reported today.

Yu Jianwei, Ling Ling's father, said his daughter was once punished to do 800 squats because she didn't finish the homework.

Xiao Wei, a classmate of Ling Ling, once told Ling Ling's cousin that their teacher used to punish the girl that way, the newspaper said.

The reporter's phone calls to Ling Ling's teacher and schoolmaster went unanswered on Saturday.

Luoyang Education Bureau said they already began to investigate the incident and found Ling Ling's math teacher did punish students by forcing them do squats.
