"House sister" detained over fake ID scandal
The woman, dubbed "House Sister" for owning 41 properties in Beijing and having multiple residence permits and citizen ID cards, has been detained by police, Xinhua News Agency reported today.
Gong Aiai, former state-owned bank chief in the Shenmu County, Shaanxi Province, has been kept in police custody since January 27 in the provincial Yulin city while an investigation is still under way.
Police said she had forged government documents and stamps. The fakes are believed to have helped her evade house purchase restriction to buy the large number of apartments.
Gong was confirmed to have two citizen ID cards and four permanent residence permits, an obvious violation of Chinese law, which forbids citizens to have more than one ID card and residence permit to prevent people from evading taxes and restrictions on housing purchase.
So far, at least seven people, including four police officers, have been detained for helping forge hukou for Gong.
Last month, online whistleblowers revealed that Gong, later nicknamed "house sister," had accumulated more than 20 properties in Beijing using fake IDs naming her as Gong Aiai and Gong Xianxia. And 21 more properties were revealed later in Beijing.
Investigations found that Gong had quit her position as deputy head in June 2012 to run her family business. The board approved her resignation request on Jan. 2, 2013. A further investigation is under way.
