McNuggets are safe, says China FDA
MCDONALD'S Chicken McNuggets are safe to eat in China, the State Food and Drug Administration said after the products were reported to contain chemicals that could cause nausea, vomiting and suffocation.
The SFDA made the announcement on its website after a CNN investigation found that McNuggets sold in the United States contained dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent, and a petrol-based chemical called tertiary butylhydroquinone (tBHQ).
The fast food chain confirmed that McNuggets sold in China also contain the two chemicals.
Officials checked samples of McNuggets and cooking oil in 22 McDonald's restaurants in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenyang, and Nanning. The chemical tBHQ was within official limits.
The additive is used in fats, oils and fried foods with a maximum level at 0.2 grams per kilogram in China.
