Official who slains mistress awaits final verdict
A FORMER government official in eastern Zhejiang Province appeared in court today awaiting the final ruling on him for killing and dismembering his mistress.
Xie Zaixing, 48, former Party chief in Ouhai District, Wenzhou City, appealed for leniency because he had offered cash compensation to the family of Shao Songqiao with whom he had a nine-year extramarital relationship and because he had confessed to police.
Zhejiang Higher People's Court has not given him a verdict yet, China News Service reported today.
His death sentence was announced on July 27 at the Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court after he confessed suffocating Shao to death under a quilt following an argument at her home in Hangzhou on November 15, 2009. He then dismembered her body and threw them into a river.
Police found the bags stuffed with body parts and steel weights in the river.
