Police detect traces of jail escapee
ABOUT 200 police officers are combing a mountain in central China's Hunan Province to hunt a prisoner who tunneled his way out of jail to freedom.
Officers from Deshan Prison in Changde City and police are searching five square kilometers around two hills in the Lishankou area of Changde's Shimenqiao Town, Xiaoxiang Morning Post reported today.
They identified the hills as a probable hideout after receiving villagers' reports that the escapee, Liu Hong, had asked for food. Police also found food packages and cigarette butts apparently left behind by Liu, the local newspaper said.
The police hoped they could recapture Liu before dark.
Prison officers noticed the escape on Sunday morning when the inmates started production around 8am, officers earlier told the newspaper.
Liu, who was serving time for robbery, had his term added to 20 years in January this year after a failed escape attempt, prison officers said.
